Whitewater City Council and their support for Campaign Zero

I have not yet had an opportunity to view the minutes or the zoom video from Tuesday’s Whitewater City Council meeting. Below is from the agenda for the meeting 4 Aug 2020

I asked Whitewater Common Council Leader Lynn Binnie what the Whitewater Police has done in order to drive this change. Binnie told me, “The Council has ultimate responsibility for all City services, and we don’t have to maintain that the PD or any city department has done anything wrong in order for us to initiate a review of their policies/procedures.”

I also asked for metrics to help determine the effectiveness of the committee. I am still waiting on those metrics 🙂 .

This group, 8CANTWAIT, is a sub-group of CampaignZero. CampaignZero’s co-founder is a woman named Brittany Packnett Cunningham. She is an activist and hosts a podcast.

It is concerning to me that the likely scenario is a minority opinion will be the echo chamber for this committee. I see a lot of potential for virtue signaling and a lot of potential for harm to our community. I have asked Binnie if he supports defunding the police and he is not providing me with an answer (if he gives me a response, I will forward).

My take: Love your neighbor. Love your enemy. This committee is acting in a horrible way that is simply chasing the approval of worldly vices. Not my sandbox….
