Growing my faith has been one the greatest joy of my life. I write this, over my children, because growing my faith has had such a fantastic influence on my kids. Jesus’ parables are among my favorite. Many times the parables describe Heaven.
10 The disciples came to him and asked, “Why do you speak to the people in parables?”
11 He replied, “Because the knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven has been given to you, but not to them.
Matthew 13:10-11
I have to admit that there is a parable that I struggled with for a couple years:
44 “The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.
Matthew 13:44
Why would this dude bury the treasure?
And how is the kingdom of heaven like a treasure hidden in a field?
I did not get it….
But….as I have been studying the Bible more and more, I have discovered many treasures. The Fruits of the Spirit are very real and very much a treasure. I remember the first time I prayed for patience.
Thy Kingdom Come, Thy Will be Done, on Earth as is in Heaven……
Again …. on Earth as is in Heaven.
So when I pray for self-control, I am experiencing a piece of Heaven. When I understand that God the Father breathed life into man, and that He knew me before I was born….. I have discovered a treasure.
The peace that surpasses understanding …. beautiful treasure.
Fellowship …. beautiful treasure.
Introducing someone to Christ, or watching them overcome a struggle….. treasure.
So that treasure is put back in the field. The field is bought, and the treasure is his. At the expense of everything he has.
