Referendum Madness and Self Control

Whether you are for or against referendums, there is one undisputable point that needs to be made…

Inflation is obviously a huge factor for these referendums. Stuff simply costs more than it did five years ago.

Inflation is caused by … government borrowing and spending.

Inflation is not naturally occurring. That Snickers bar that I used to pay a quarter to purchase at the licquor store behind our home in 1980 now costs $2.50 (and it is smaller). This is because our goverment has devalued 90% of the dollar with spending and consequently inflation.

So the city and schools need more money because stuff cost more than it did. Stuff cost more than it did because of government spending.

So the solution is …  more government spending (via referendums)?

It is a vicious cycle.

So ironic it is…  a teacher/government employee gets a 2-3% raise per year, in the midst of 6-9% inflation (over the last four years) … then continues to vote for the spending.

Note that inflation did not occur during Trump 1 because the spending did not occur.  (COVID screwed it up, but I digress.)

In Whitewater, we have wasted millions of dollars, paying two thousand dollars per square foot (net) for additional library space; and now the are seriously asking taxpayers about spending a million plus on the tower.

(More to come on the library funding issues.)

Good thing Jill Gerber is running against Lisa Dawsey Smith in a few months.

We need self-control.
